GRACE MINISTRIES ORPHANAGE

UVIRA, DR Congo

About US

Grace Ministries is a registered nonprofit organization that has been operating in Eastern DRC since 2008. Founded by David Mtange and Hosea Mauridi, the orphanage was established to support children who lost their parents due to the ongoing wars that have affected the country since 1996. In addition to civil conflicts, natural disasters, disease, and hunger have devastated the region, prompting the two volunteers to create a safe haven where orphans can access food, education, psychosocial assistance, shelter, and care.

Currently, Grace Ministries provides housing and care for 77 children across four residential homes and operates a multi-purpose hall that serves as both an educational space and a food distribution center.

Urgent Need for Support

In 2024, the orphanage faced multiple crises. Initially, severe flooding forced a temporary relocation. However, upon returning, they were once again forced to flee due to escalating violence from M23 (March 23 Movement), an armed rebel group operating in North Kivu. M23 has since seized major cities, including Goma and Bukavu, displacing thousands of civilians.

Amid this crisis, 360 displaced women and children arrived at the orphanage, desperately seeking food, water, and shelter. In response, Hosea and David are actively raising funds to support both the orphans and the growing number of refugees seeking safety.

HOW TO HELP and pray

Urgent Need

Supplies needed: Food, water, mosquito nets, personal hygiene products, tarps, mattresses, blankets, dishes for serving food

IMpact of ongoing crisis

The M23 rebels have already seized control of Kalehe, Nyabibwe, and Katana districts in South Kivu province, bringing the conflict dangerously close to Bukavu and Goma—two major cities in the region. As a result, hundreds of families from the battle zones are fleeing daily, seeking refuge in Uvira city to escape the violence and constant sound of gunfire. Their journey is difficult, and conditions remain dire. In response, a team from Grace Orphanage is preparing to provide essential relief, including food, soap, and salt, to support those displaced by the ongoing conflict. While resources are limited, every effort is being made to bring hope and assistance to those in need.

Our Prayer request

Protection for the children and staff amid escalating violence, provision of food, water, and urgent humanitarian aid for those in need, peace in Uvira and the surrounding areas. Wisdom for our team as they navigate critical decisions, and strength to remain steadfast in faith during these challenging times.
