“Raising a Better Future”

Background
Lea is a Swahili word meaning “Raise”. This word means a lot to me. My mom who also is named “Lea” raised us in a Godly way in the midst of extreme poverty and in all this, she taught us to share and to treat everybody as our own. Lea Community Centre is on a one-acre land and also owns an adjacent three-acre farm.
Vision
Our vision is to positively impact, influence transform, empower, and raise the living standard of the children and people in this community through information awareness and full participation in projects that will alleviate poverty and illiteracy among the underprivileged society and give hope to the hopeless.
Mission

Our mission is to see a society where everybody enjoys his or her fundamental human and God-given rights to see that every child/person gets their basic and fundamental needs met and to equip members with basic knowledge that can make them of benefit to the community and society.

Our Plans

Our goal is to establish a fully functional Community Centre that will be equipped to cater to the needs of the community. We believe that by providing access to various programs and resources, we can help individuals in the community break free from the chains of poverty. Our Community Centre will be a hub for information, consultation, and education aimed at ensuring that everyone in the community has access to the resources they need to succeed in all aspects of life.

Programs

Our programs include job and vocational training, educational workshops, health and wellness classes, as well as community outreach events. We envision our Community Centre as a beacon of hope and support for all members of the community, regardless of their background or circumstances. Together, we can build a better future for ourselves and our community.

Our Projects

Education & Feeding Program

Education is a big challenge in our community due to poverty. Only 3 early childhood development school centers are available for over 2,000 kids in the area. The vulnerable kids and their parents cannot afford to pay the tuition fees and are forced to stay at home. That is why we started "Tunalea Kids Academy" at Lea Community Centre in 2017, offering quality education to 120 kids. Parents pay half of the fees because the project is funded by friends and well-wishers. Two meals a day are also offered to the children during the school day. This helps to address hunger in the area for these children. By sponsoring our school and feeding program, children can receive a quality education while also getting nutrient-rich meals that come from our farm.

Widows Catering Kitchen

Windows' Catering Kitchen offers widows a vocational opportunity that provides income and support for themselves and their children. With frequent catering opportunities in the area, the women share the profits equally and provide the community with affordable catering services.

Clean Water Initiative

The Community now has clean water thanks to the government, Help the Least of These' and friends. Dirty ponds and 5km walks for clean water with a risk of sexual harassment of women and young girls are now things of the past. Safe and reliable water is now available.
